Skincare is so important and any little breakouts here and there can definitely be a pain. Although we’re not all board-certified dermatologists, there are elements of a healthy skincare routine that we can do at home to make our life easier and skin healthier. Before I gave birth, skincare was really one of the last things I had to think about besides the usual face cleanse and scrub. Clear skin came naturally for me so when I did face my first breakout, it was annoying.
When finding the right skincare routine for you, the search can be overwhelming. There’s so many buzz words like skin barrier, free radicals, spot treatments, non- and chemical exfoliation (and the list goes on), that it can deter you from even trying or cost you a ton of money in the long run. But after trial and error, I found solutions that worked for me, and a few of them were products from the SheaMoisture skincare line.
The African Black Soap with Shea Butter, Raw Shea Butter Soap, and the African Black Soap Facial Wipes have been my must-haves from SheaMoisture. Like most new moms, I’ve been facing problems with my skin since being pregnant with my now 9-month-old and finding the right products that don’t irritate my skin and are perfectly formulated for my skin type are a must. I’ve been completely focusing on products with natural ingredients and SheaMoisture is a company that is created with natural products.
It’s amazing to think about how much our skin changes on a consistent and what feels like daily basis. Growing up, I never paid attention or realized the importance of actually reading labels and finding products that have hydrating ingredients, and I cannot stress enough how it makes a difference. I’ve changed up my nighttime routine so much to try and find something that fit and didn’t dry my skin out overnight or lead to major peeling in the morning.
I’ve noticed is that using only one skincare line has been beneficial. Sometimes we fall into the habit of purchasing our moisturizer from one brand, our eye creams from another, and our night creams from a third. I’m no scientist and for some reason, I was doing an experiment on my face every morning and night hoping that it would somehow come together. It is important to realize that your skincare products are meant to in a sense piggyback off one another to help you achieve the best results.
So, the past few months my routine has been consistent, and I’ve seen a major difference in my skin, my wallet, and my peace of mind.
My Nighttime Skin Care Routine with SheaMoisture
For me, nighttime is the time I get to fully dedicate myself to self-care. With a little one, the day is so sporadic that keeping a routine is nearly impossible. I start off by using the SheaMoisture African Black Soap Facial Wipes and, depending on the night, I switch between the SheaMoisture African Black Soap with Shea Butter or the SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Soap. Both are great but for me give different results for my skin depending on what I’m looking for.
I use the clarifying Wipes first to easily remove makeup & dirt from my skin, and it doesn’t call for rinsing or drying immediately after. It’s also perfect for getting in the small eye area spaces that can be tough to get fully clean. So, if I am not going to bed right away and just wanted to unwind for the day by removing my makeup, this super easy and low maintenance task does everything I need in a matter of minutes.
One of my favorite things about the Wipes is that they are filled with African Black Soap and Tea Tree Oil to help balance my oily skin for a clearer appearance. It also contains Calendula Oil to calm and soothe my skin. After one use my skin feels balanced, refreshed, and soothed.
I then usually follow with the SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Facial Bar Soap but depending on the day I opt for the African Black Soap. What I love about the Raw Shea Butter Soap is that it’s completely organic and designed for sensitive skin. Since having our little one, I can be honest and say I’ve had the weirdest things be off with my body and slowly after a few months be normal and one of them was my skin. Sensitive couldn’t even explain what was happening because I was breaking out from everything and it became a little overwhelming. With the help of products like SheaMoisture and patience, I’m almost back to where I started but it has honestly taken time.
One of the many things I love about this collection is that anyone in the family can use and love it. I’ve gotten my husband on board and he loves that the SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Facial Bar Soap has a fresh unisex scent so he’s not thinking it’s a “woman’s soap.” Having everyone use the same skincare allows us to have our nighttime routine together. We can unwind from the day while also growing closer and spending more time together.
Then, when complete, I usually throw my SheaMoisture Black Soap Clarifying Facial Wipes into my work bag, especially on days I’m stopping by the gym for a workout. It helps clean off the excess sweat and dirt I’ve worked up from not only the workout but throughout the day.
But Why SheaMoisture? Where You Buy Matters!
There are a ton of skincare brands out there to choose from, but I wanted to go with one that values not only my dollars but also the community they serve and impact. It was nice to find out that all the shea butter used in SheaMoisture products is sourced directly from 15 women’s cooperatives in Northern Ghana. It would have been easy for SheaMoisture to buy Shea from these women in vulnerable communities, at little to nothing to increase their profit margins. But, they didn’t. They purchased at an ethical wage- which is 2 or 3 times more than the price at which their Shea is traded in the market.
Taking it one step further, 10% of the profits gained from the sale of Community Commerce products is donated back to these communities. Buying from brands that value their community, vendors, and everyone in between is super important to me. It lets me know that there are still great companies out there and that by buying my everyday items I am also helping people around the world.
All products mentioned can be found at your local Walmart and right now they are running a special offer on products. Check it out HERE. Have you tried any SheaMoisture skincare products before?
