Now that fall is here it’s time to reorganize our kids’ fall wardrobe to prepare for the cool weather. When we think of fall cardigans, sweaters, long sleeve shirts, boots, and cute hats come to mind. As trends change each year, creating a seasonal capsule wardrobe ensures you have suitable pieces to mix and match that are both fashionable and timeless.
Are you wondering how to compose your child’s fall capsule wardrobe? Here are a few garments you’ll want to add to your cart while shopping! Before we dive in let’s cover what a capsule wardrobe is.
What is a capsule wardrobe?
A capsule wardrobe is a small collection of garments that can be paired together for an assortment of outfits. The garments should be complementary in color and style. Why are capsule wardrobes beneficial for any closet and parent? A limited selection of essential pieces:
- cuts back on indecision,
- allows for a wide variety of outfits,
- is cost efficient,
- and is a sustainable approach to shopping!
Now that we know the basics, let’s start planning and building your kids fall capsule wardrobe!
How to build your kids fall wardrobe:
First, you’ll want to inventory what you already have. Set aside pieces that your child will still be able to fit for the next year or so. Neutral clothing, good quality fabric, and durable pieces should also be saved. Whatever doesn’t fit, isn’t your child’s style anymore or wouldn’t be a proper fit for your capsule can be donated to charity or saved for a young sibling or family member.
Second, think about the activities your child participates in, the weather in your region, and your budget for your fall capsule wardrobe. If you live in the southeast like me, you know the fall weather can vary in temperature so short sleeves and jackets will be a must!
Next, it’s time to shop for pieces to add to your child’s capsule, our favorite part! If this is your first capsule wardrobe let’s start with 3 basic short sleeve shirts, 3 long sleeve shirts, 2 sweaters, 1 cardigan or pullover, 3 pairs of pants and or jeans, 2 dresses (if shopping for a girl), 2 jackets, 3 pairs of shoes, and a few accessories like hats and scarves.
