Workwear has evolved so much over the past few years. It went from mandatory suits and ties to jeans and a button down. I remember my mom always talking about jean Friday when I was younger when that’s the only day most companies allowed casual days. There are still some companies who require professional wear like full suits and stockings even in the hot summer months which sucks because who has time for that but there are also companies who’ve adapted to 2018 and realize the clothes don’t generate the work.  Business casual is always the way to go because there are so many cute options that you can pair to still look professional but comfortable at the same time. I can’t even imagine having to wear a suit in the 100+ degree Georgia heat. Many people still have a hard time completely transitioning to business casual because they aren’t sure exactly where to find this style of dress or don’t want to invest more money in a complete wardrobe makeover for new workwear. Luckily with brands like Who What Wear, business casual clothing can be found for an incredible price in stores like Target. You don’t have to go and invest thousands of dollars in a work wardrobe because the essential key that I like about business casual is those pieces are things you can mix and match with your everyday wear. You can’t use a suit jacket for a grocery run and then drinks with friends, but you can wear a floral blouse to work and then dinner. I love pieces that can be multipurpose because you want to get your money’s worth. If you’re transitioning into the casual office vibes or need new workwear pieces, I’ve gathered a few tips that you should keep in mind on your next shopping trip.

1. Invest in key pieces:  Your shoes, workbag, watch, even jacket could be a few key pieces that you want to spend a little extra on for your work wardrobe look. Those key pieces are things that will last a long time and can withstand everyday use. You don’t want to get a $19 jacket that you know you’ll probably wear every day in the winter and it lasts you two weeks. You could invest in the coat that may be a little more than what you’re used to spending, but it could endure many winters. This offsets the cost of having to buy a new jacket every year.

2. Catch a sale: Stores always have sales going on, especially as the seasons are changing. I’ve found boots that were regular price $250 for $60 as the temps begin to raise entering early spring. Never be too good for a sale because you can catch those must have brands sometimes for a great price!

3. Fill your current wardrobe: Everyone owns at least one pair of dress pants. Time is everything, and you don’t have to rush time to get every piece of clothing for work at one time. Fill your wardrobe to match with things you already have in your closet. Your job allow jeans every day? Good! Maybe purchase 2-3 new shirts to go with jeans you already own. Black blazer but no pants to match? Instead of looking for a full two piece set, shop for the pants until you’re able to invest in a new suit fully.

4. Keep it basic: While you might dream of a different business wardrobe that is filled with bright colors, you can save money by keeping your base items simple. Neutral colors, such as black, navy, tan, and grey can all help you build a variety of outfits without having to buy coordinating pieces. You can always dress up skirts, pants, and blouses with colorful scarves and other accessories that give them that unique and fashionable kick.
