How to Deal with Working Mom Guilt

working mom guilt - how to overcome working mom guilt

As a working mom, it is very likely that you have felt working mom guilt. It’s the feeling you get when something happens that makes you feel guilty about being a working mom. Working mom guilt hits when you leave your kid, crying at daycare or you forget to do something for your family because you were focused on work. And when you try to balance family and work equally, you feel like you’re doing each half-heartedly. Sometimes when your schedule is so tight, you feel compelled to “work” all the time, scared of the consequences if you aren’t constantly productive. Especially with everything currently going on in the world and everyone working from home currently, the working mom’s guilt can hit harder feeling like you’re not able to handle both the work and being a mom but you’re not alone.

The fact of the matter is that working mom guilt causes far more harm than good. Nobody needs to “do it all” all the time. Doing it all produces an unhealthy and destructive kind of stress. Actually, 38% of working moms said they don’t spend enough time with their children. At the same time, however, 18% of part-time working moms and 11% of stay-at-home moms said the same according to a survey done by Pew Research Center. It is hard and unattainable to be everything to everybody, so take steps to abandon the working mom’s guilt.

Financial security is sometimes more important. According to a University of Maryland study, for children ages 2 – 11, it makes no difference in the number of hours a mother spends with her child regarding her kid’s academic or psychological progress. This doesn’t mean don’t spend time with your kids at all; it just means some days it is ok if you just don’t have the time or the energy to spend quality time for a few extra hours. Focusing time on making more money can help a child way more in the long run, especially when he or she is applying to college.

Don’t feel pressured to do something productive every time you have some free time. If your kid takes a nap, turn that time into “you” time. Taking time to relax, read, or do whatever you want to do that makes you happy. Turn off the nagging voice in your mind that keeps reminding you of your large to-do list. Taking time for yourself helps you de-stress and be a better mom for your family

Kids fare well even when mom’s work. The best thing you can do for your children is to allow them to learn from your hard-working spirit and determination. In the long run, this will help to prepare them for the real world. Also, when mothers work, the pay gap narrows, and the labor gap inside the home narrows.

Reserve your self-judgment. Unfortunately, you are your toughest critic. When you forget that it is pajama day at school, it can be disappointing for you and your kid. However, you need to stop beating yourself up. Yes, your child will be sad, but they won’t be sad forever. They won’t do horribly in school because they aren’t in their pajamas, and they won’t remember this one bad experience years from now. Remember that you are human and no one is perfect.

Working mom guilt will happen, and it can be really tough. But you have to remember that you are doing the best thing you can for your children. Hopefully, with these reminders, you’ll be able to overcome the guilt to be the best working mom you can be.

My Favorite February Purchases Under $100

February Great Buys Under $100

Last month, I was preparing for my first big trip of the year and shopping all of the sales from beauty to home goods. It’s safe to say I tried on and tested over 100 items, but only a few made my favorites list for February. The best part, everything is under $100. I wanted to shop at stores that are usually on my list like Target to brands I’ve never really thought about shopping at, Zara.

Speaking of Zara, let’s chat about this outfit for a bit. I’m sure when you look at it, the skirt is the first thing you notice with its perfectly laid pleats. I know that was the first thing I noticed when browsing the Zara website. I’m not sure if I’m the only one, but I usually can’t shop their website because the pieces never look appealing to me, but this particular belted skirt stood out.

I’m obsessed with this skirt, really the entire look, and I love how it came together. This top set it off because with the skirt being belted, I knew I wanted something fitted almost like a bodysuit. So it’s safe to say, my skirt (similar skirt) and top are two of my February purchases and of course under $100. I can’t wait to share what I have coming up for March because the warm temps are approaching, and spring and summer are my favorite months to dress for honestly. Until then, scroll below to see all of my favorite February buys under $100 that made the list!

The White Sneakers You Need This Spring

white sneakers for spring

Spring is here and I’m revamping my entire wardrobe this season. My first purchase, white sneakers. I’m obsessed with white sneakers with not only jeans but recently pairing them with dresses which I thought I would never do. It opened me up to an entirely different style trend and I’m obsessed. This look featured in this post with the paper bag pants and black camisole and the leather jacket seemed like the perfect fit with these sneakers from Famous Footwear. When I decided to revamp my closet this season, I knew Famous Footwear would be the perfect place to go for the new shoes.

As a busy mom on the go, sneakers are usually my go-to whenever I can help it. Chasing a toddler around, that can’t be comfortable in heels as they are extremely fast. I have to be able to keep up with him and stay comfortable so these white sneakers allow me to do just that. Stay tuned as I share all of my new spring footwear and how I’m styling them this season. I’m so excited to style these new pieces this spring and Famous Footwear will be my go-to to make it happen. If you’re looking for new spring footwear, Famous Footwear should be on your radar this season.

The Ultimate Guide For Traveling To Florida Keys

In December, I had the opportunity to travel to the Florida Keys area with my family. I didn’t know what to expect since our itinerary included driving after we landed for over an hour to our resort. Now, many people would think traveling to the keys with kids could be difficult, but it’s a great time. We landed in Miami, grabbed our luggage, and picked up our rental car for our almost two-hour drive to our first stop driving down the Keys in Marathon, Florida. If you’re looking to make a trip down to the Florida Keys, here’s a quick guide to help you when planning your trip.

How To Get To Florida Keys:

The best way to travel to the Florida Keys is to fly into Miami International Airport and rent a car to make the drive. You can fly directly into Key West, but it can be more expensive.

Where To Stay: Isla Bella Beach Resort

If you’re not making the entire trip to the Key West area in one drive and want to stop along the way, Marathon, Florida, is perfect. You can even have your stay at Isla Bella and drive down to Key West to spend the day and back to the resort. Isla Bella is a brand new 24-acre oceanfront destination in the heart of the Florida Keys, offers stunning ocean views from every room and suite. It’s such a beautiful family-friendly destination that transforms you into your mini-island away from everything. It’s not only beautiful but filled with a variety of amenities such as multiple dining options, a marina with water sports, and five oceanfront pools.

What To Do

The list could go on and on with things to do in the Florida Keys. From water activities to making the multiple stops in each key until you get to Key West, there is so much you can do for all ages. A few of my favorite activities included the Land’s End Sunset Sail with Sebago Watersports, Keywest Aquarium, and The Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory. Since my little one traveled with us and he’s only two, we kept the itinerary light so we could make time for naps, etc. But. if you’re not traveling with young kids, I would suggest checking out the water activities like snorkeling and swimming with the dolphins.

Where To Eat

The endless amount of delicious food we had on our list during the trip down the keys was so incredible. I think my two favorites were breakfast at Matt’s Stock Island Kitchen & Bar and dinner at IL Postino at Isla Bella Beach Resort.  A few other options I’d include would be the A&B Lobster House, where diners can watch the sunset over the harbor at this local fixture for surf ‘n’ turf and Lucy’s Retired Surfer’s Bar which provides more of a laid back atmosphere which is perfect for kids.

4 Tips To Decorating Your Table For The Holidays

dining table decorating ideas

Happy New Year!! Did you hear Oprah’s voice when you read that? I know I did because every time I type it, I say it out loud in her voice for some reason. I’m going to assume that it means this year will be that overtop amazing! But, before we sweep 2019 under the rug, I had the opportunity to decorate our home for the holidays — both Thanksgiving and Christmas for the first time in a long time. If you’re new here, we built our home and closed on it in September of 2019. This was one of our family’s top moments of the year as we planted roots officially in Georgia in our very own home. We got in right before the holidays, and we were so excited we agreed to host family on both holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. With this agreement, it was a must for me to make sure I worked on our dining room space first, where we would eat our first holiday meals in our new home. Don’t let your dining table sit empty for the holidays. Here are four quick and easy tips for decorating your dining table for the holidays.

Pick A Theme

Every holiday has it’s own branded color scheme and theme going. We know pink, and red mean Valentine’s Day, Red, White & Blue are 4th of July. With the known branded colors for the holidays, I know with our overall home design, we kept it light and neutrals as a modern farmhouse style, so I didn’t want to sway away from that when it came to my table design. For both Thanksgiving and Christmas, I went with a soft and neutral color theme that you usually don’t see. For thanksgiving, I was obsessed with the wine color theme and saw it initially on Pinterest for Christmas. I knew I could go to Michaels and still find a few pumpkins and festive pieces to make a Thanksgiving-themed centerpiece, so it fit for the holiday. For Christmas, I wanted to go straight neutrals and simple. I wanted the brighten up the room and have a minimal design feel for Christmas.

Mix Highs & Lows

I think when it comes to home decor, everyone feels the more expensive, the better. That’s not always true, and I’m here to share with you why. My gold chargers shown in both photos came from Michaels for $2 per charger. I’ve seen the exact charger plates in a few of my favorite higher-end stores for extremely more. Instead, I use those stores for pieces that I know will be worth it in the end, like my place settings and the dining room table itself. I already have plans to decorate my table each holiday and change up the color scheme so the charger plates that are barely seen entirely, in my opinion, didn’t have to be a high priced item. Don’t feel like you have to have super expensive decor. You can find things you already have and stores like Hobby Lobby & Michaels to DIY and find the perfect decor pieces at a budget-friendly price.

Find A Focal Point

My focal point for Christmas was the napkin holders. I know it’s such a small item, but it was one of the first things that caught people’s eyes during the holiday season. The snowflake stands out on the table, and it brings the Christmas theme together.

Opt-Out Of A Floral Centerpiece

For Thanksgiving, I wanted to give it a try, and it turned out great, but for Christmas, I wanted to do something different. I think we’re so trained to believe a centerpiece has to be some floral arrangement, but it doesn’t. I decided to opt for Christmas themed items like the statue reindeer and the acorns, all while keeping my candles and runner as the focus for the neutral theme.

I hope these quick and easy tips help you as you get your plan on decorating dining table for holidays. Bookmark this page to keep these four easy tips on decorating your table for the holidays in your pocket.
