When I first started my blog six years ago, I honestly didn’t know what I wanted it to be or where it was going. I initially started my site as a way to connect with family and friends after our big move to Texas. Fast forward to six years later, and it’s become a significant part of my day-to-day and expanded into its own brand. I love how much this little idea has grown into something major and I am so excited to continue to work on it and grow. I always get messages on how did I get started, how do I land brand partnerships, how do I build an audience and how to stand out in a crowded industry. It’s easy. Be yourself and know why you’re doing it. Many people only want to blog or become an influencer because they think it’s all about free stuff and no work. If you come in thinking that, you won’t last. You’ll get burnt out quick because you will not have the passion to keep up with the postings when you don’t get “free stuff” your first month of starting. Of course, at this time, it may seem like there are so many people in the blogging industry and there isn’t room for another one. If you think that way you’ll never get anywhere. You have to follow your heart and do what makes you happy. If you jump into the blogging industry wanting to copy other people you won’t get far when it’s time to stand out. Those people are already established for what they’re putting out so you’ll just get buried underneath what they are already doing unless you put your own creative touch onto it. If you’re just starting to blog or already in the industry and looking for 4 ways to stand out, keep reading.
4 Ways to Stand Out in the Blogging Industry
This is so important. Yes, a simple iPhone picture may do every now and then but you really need good clean quality images when wanting to push yourself in front of brands and stand out. Almost commercial worthy if that makes sense. Your images can also help attract new readers/fans because they are so professional and tell a unique story.
Staying consistent is something that can make or break your site. If you post once a month, that’s one sure way to never grow an audience. If you stay consistent with posting on social media and your blog, you can grow a fan base because they’ll look forward to seeing all of your new content and know when to expect your new content. Also, you’d be surprised at how many people don’t keep consistency with their content so, by doing this, it helps you get ahead of the game.
3. Be Yourself
As I mentioned above, being yourself is the most important thing you can do to stand out in this industry. Flaws and all make you more relatable to your readers.
4. Find Your Niche
When you decide to start your blog, make sure you pick a topic that is exciting and makes you happy. You don’t want to start writing or promoting yourself as a beauty blogger but you hate wearing makeup. You’re basically forcing yourself to talk about something that isn’t apart of your everyday lifestyle and it’ll drain you quick.
The four tips above can help you get started in the blogging industry when you’re trying to find your voice in this crowded space. I hope this helps you get a start on creating content and launching your authentic voice.
